What's In Your Kitchen Drawer? A Bag Drawer Refresh

The three things every kitchen drawer actually needs

You don't need ten types of bag. You need three.

  • A caddy bag for food waste. Our 10 Litre bags are certified compostable to EN13432 and carry the TUV Austria OK compost mark for both home and industrial composting. They're sized for a kitchen caddy, not a bin liner, so they don't bunch up or tear.
  • Freezer bags for storage. Our 2 Litre and 4 Litre bags are food, fridge and freezer safe, made to hold up in the cold without splitting.
  • Zip loc bags for everything else. Snacks, sandwiches, leftovers. Our 0.5 Litre zip loc bags are certified compostable for industrial composting under the TUV Austria OK compost industrial mark.

Why the drawer gets messy in the first place

It's almost never bad habits. It's usually three or four half used boxes bought at different times, none of them quite the right size, all competing for the same six inches of drawer space. Standardising on one caddy size, one freezer size and one zip loc size solves that permanently.

The five minute refresh

Empty the drawer. Bin anything torn, empty or unidentifiable. Group what's left into the three categories above. Anything that doesn't fit a category, it's probably not something you need in that drawer at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a caddy bag and a normal bin liner?

A caddy bag is smaller and designed to line a kitchen food waste caddy, the kind most UK councils now collect weekly. A bin liner is sized for a larger general waste bin and isn't designed for food waste collection.

Can I put freezer bags in my food waste bin once I'm done with them?

No. Our freezer bags are food, fridge and freezer safe but don't currently carry a certified compostable mark, so they should go in general waste, not food waste or garden compost.

Are the zip loc bags home compostable or industrial only?

Industrial only. They carry the TUV Austria OK compost industrial mark, which means they need a council food waste collection or industrial composting facility, not a home compost heap.
